A trip to Bath…

I’m avoiding All-Weather finals day today as it’s ultra-competitive and I don’t play on the AW too often, and I’d be guessing plenty!

So, I thought I’d head to the only turf meeting of the day.

Firstly, and more generally, I found it odd that Adam Kirby rides at Bath today, given he’s one of the finest AW riders around, especially at Lingfield. It could be he simply has no options to ride there, or he’s riding some decent types here today. I haven’t tipped any of his rides below, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t have a winner or two, at a track where he does well.

To the horses…

2.20 – Don’t Joke

Mark Johnston’s form here is certainly no laughing matter… in the last year he’s 10/22,14p with all runners at the track, 6/22,12p with 2 year olds in the last five years. He has a decent record with horses making their career debut and the yard are also starting to burst into life with a couple of winners in recent days.

The horse cost 50 000 as a yearling and it’s interesting to see The Rooney’s having a few more flat runners. This one’s mother won at 5-7f and aged 2, so I’d like to think it will be ready to run first time up. Johnston knows how to train speed into his horses, and I’m interested to see how this one performs. I expect a win or two soon enough, hopefully today.

4.05 – Shumookhi

On what these fillies have achieved to date this is the best one in the race, with an OR of 100. Of course she’s open to attack from something more progressive now but with a race in France under her belt I thought this prominent racer may give these plenty to think about.

The trainer is in fine form, 7/22, 11p in the last 14 days and he’s 2/8,3p at the track in the last year. He’s booked a jockey who rides this course well – 3/10,8p in the last year. He’s reached for the CP here to sharpen her up and given her running style, they could help. She will try and make all/or race very prominent, and there should be more improvement to come this season.

Cardiff City vs Liverpool: Opposition Insight

If she’s an EW price, that may be the play, and should give us a good spin. She seems versatile with regards to ground and I’m happy to keep her onside here.

Best of luck!
